The decrease was largely due to fewer cars being on the road due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Despite this, Ireland was still above WHO guidelines for emissions from the burning of solid fuels.
Programme Manager with the EPA Patrick Byrne says the improvement in air quality was particularly noticeable in urban areas.
