Cabinet To Discuss Latest Recommendations By NPHET

A full meeting of the Cabinet will take place today to discuss recommendations made by the National Public Health Emergency Team.

Reports say the advice could include plans for older and at risk people to limit their time outdoors, but It’s not yet known if the closure of pubs and restaurants again is one of the recommendations being put forward.

It comes after 322 new cases of COVID-19 were identified since last Saturday, 56 of those were confirmed yesterday. with 26 in Kildare and 13 in Dublin. The 17 other cases were in 10 different counties.

The Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn has said in recent days that the rising number of cases is concerning ahead of the reopening of schools, with cases identified throughout the country.
Dr Glynn met with the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly last night after his team’s meeting.

According to the Irish Independent, NPHET's recommended that older people should once again restrict their movements and avoid large gatherings. It's suggesting that the numbers permitted in a home are reduced to six to clamp down on house parties, while outdoor home gatherings should be cut to 15. It's also advising that people who can work from home should do so for the coming weeks. 18 people are currently being treated in hospitals for the virus, with eight confirmed cases in ICUs.
