Dun Laoghaire Gardai Hold Media Briefing On Investigation Into the Murder Of New Born 47 Years Ago

Gardai in Dun Laoghaire are to hold a media briefing today into the ongoing investigation into the murder of a new born baby, whose body was found in a laneway in the town 47 years ago.

In 2007 an inquest jury found that the infant, Noleen Murphy, was the child of Cynthia Owen, who had claimed was conceived as a result of sexual abuse in the family home carried out by family members and friends of her father. She gave birth to the little girl when she was just 11 year old.

The jury also found that the infant died at the family home in White's Villas in Dalkey and that the cause of death was loss of blood due to stab wounds.

Two retired gardai were among a number of people interviewed by detectives investigating the murder.
