Irish Rail Report Increase In Number Of Carriages Being Vandalised

Irish Rail says it's working to co-ordinate security systems with Gardai at it's new Train Control Centre.

The move comes after it was revealed to TD Alan Farrell that 71 text alerts have been sent to the operator.

That system is used to notify it of anti-social behaviour, including disturbances, drinking, drug taking and smoking.

Meanwhile figures released to Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond have shown an increase of almost a fifth in anti social behaviour on the LUAS.

593 incidents were recorded in 2019, and over 700 were noted in 2020.

Deputy Richmond says this unacceptable behaviour is 'clearly widespread' and has called for a transport specific policing operation to be introduced.
