The number of people diagnosed with HIV or a sexually transmitted infection has dropped by 36 per cent this year.
According to the HSE, there have been 2,116 cases in 2021, as of last Saturday.
That compares to nearly 3,300 in the same period last year. It's believed the Covid-19 restrictions have played a major part in the reduction in the number of new cases.
Eight people under 14 have tested positive in 2021, and 181 are aged between 15 and 19.
