Police Officer Due In Court In Connection With George Floyd's Death

The sacked police officer charged with the second degree murder of unarmed black man George Floyd in Minnesota last month is due to appear in court later today.

Derek Chauvin had been due in court last Monday but the appearance was rescheduled.
He's also facing a charge of second degree manslaughter.

Members of the city council in Minneapolis are promising to disband the police department - following the death of George Floyd in custody.

The majority of councillors say it's clear the system isn’t keeping "communities safe", and are vowing to "end policing as we know it."

In Britain,  Boris Johnson says anti-racism protests in the UK have been 'subverted by thuggery'. The British Prime Minister has tweeted after mostly-peaceful demonstrations in London yesterday ended in scuffles.
