Tensions Increase In U.S. As Democrats Look To Remove Trump From Office Early

In the US, Democrats have asked vice-president Mike Pence to remove Donald Trump from office, by invoking the 25th Amendment, but experts say that’s unlikely to happen.

They've also introduced an article of impeachment against the president, charging him with "incitement of insurrection" related to the invasion of the US Capitol last Wednesday.

Meanwhile the FBI says possible armed protests are planned in Washington DC and in all 50 state capitals in the run-up to Joe Biden's inauguration.
It's issued warnings for the weekend, lasting up to the handover ceremony which takes place tomorrow week.
The country's National Guard has been authorised to send up to 15-thousand troops to the US capital to secure the event.
