UPDATE: Teen Re-Sentenced For Attempted Murder Of Woman In Dun Laoghaire

A teenage boy's been re-sentenced to 11 years detention, with a review after seven years, for attempting to murder a woman in Dún Laoghaire in Dublin in December 2017.

The Court of Appeal increased the review date by two years, after finding the original term was unduly lenient.

The Court ruled the level of planning and premeditation meant the offence was at the high end of the spectrum, even as attempted murders go, and a review of his detention should be set for 2025 and not 2023.

The boy, who's now 17, lured Stephanie Ng, who he met through a dating app, to the Sea Front in Dun Laoghaire in Dublin two days before Christmas, grabbed her from behind, choked her and slashed her neck with a knife.

The three judges said it was a difficult case with no easy answers, but this gives the best chance of a reintroduction back into society and a date for the boy to work towards.

The court heard he's doing well in Oberstown Detention Centre, but is "a high risk" of serious harm to himself and others.
