Work Due To Get Underway To Address Pollution From Old Bray Dump

Contracts have been signed to carry out work at the North Beach in Bray to prevent  the old Bray municipal landfill being washed into the Irish Sea.

Work on the two million  Euro coastal project is expected to get underway in the coming weeks.

The old dump on the border between Wicklow and Dublin was used by the local authorities until the 1960s. It’s estimated that it contains more than 104,000 cubic metres of waste including asbestos, and other toxic material. Due to coastal erosion the waste has been getting washed into the Irish Sea, causing serious pollution..

Welcoming the news work will begin to address this, Wicklow T.D. John Brady, who has been involved in a 14-year campaign to address the issue, says this is an environmental disaster that should have been rectified years ago.
