Most football referees don't report their assaults to the gardai, due to fear of a retaliation.
That's according to the Irish Soccer Referees Society, which is appearing before an Oireachtas committee today.
It says many refs retire because of foul language and violence they receive during matches.
Vice-president of the society, Sean Slattery, says it's very demoralising for them.
