DUBLIN THEATRE FESTIVAL 2026

Tonight on The Sunday Show, I’m joined by Róise Goan, Artistic Director & Chief Executive of Dublin Theatre Festival, for a look ahead to this year’s festival — running from 24 September to 11 October 2026.

Dublin Theatre Festival is one of the great dates in Ireland’s cultural calendar, bringing together Irish and international theatre across venues throughout the city.

Róise and I chat about the incredible programme this year, including Lourdes! The Musical, Testament, the new opera created by Tarik O’Regan and Colm Tóibín, ANIMALS from the Abbey Theatre and Blindboyboatclub, A Moon for the Misbegotten from Druid, and much more.

We also talk about the huge range of productions and experiences on offer — from contemporary Irish work to international theatre, dance, opera and performances exploring everything from identity and migration to technology, politics, art and the world around us.

And there are some fascinating and unusual productions too, including TANZ, Heroes of Tomorrow, ZINC, MAMI, REFUGE, Let Me In and Hysterically Shopping! to Some Sort of End….

With the festival taking place across 18 days and venues right around Dublin, it really is an opportunity to experience the city through theatre — and discover some extraordinary Irish and international artists along the way.
