“Düsseldorf: Art, Culture, Sport & Altbier
The Sunday Show
Sunday, 9 November 2025 - 42 minutes

On this evening’s Sunday Show, we’re off to Düsseldorf — Germany’s stylish river city with a big personality and an even bigger heart.
Ed is joined by Christian Schüeller and Katja Heuer who tell us what makes “Düsseldorf” one of Europe’s most exciting short-break destinations. From the famous Altbier and the iconic “longest bar in the world,” to the colourful Carnival celebrations beginning on the 11th of November, Düsseldorf knows how to have fun in style.
We dive into the city’s vibrant art scene, world-class opera, and the unique flavours of Little Tokyo — home to the third-largest Japanese community in Europe. With Christmas Markets lighting up the city streets and incredible shopping and museums on every corner, it’s the perfect weekend and short break escape. Also a great base for visiting nearby Cologne and Bonn.

Katja also tells us about the award-winning work happening at Düsseldorf Airport, recently recognised by Skytrax, and why it’s one of the most efficient gateways in Europe — just 10 minutes by train from the city centre.
A brilliant chat, a fantastic city, and plenty of inspiration for your next getaway. Next week we chat with Dimitri Belov about why Düsseldorf is becoming a centre of excellence for preventative medicine — Ed visits the radprax Clinic, where cutting-edge health screenings and early-detection tests are attracting visitors from across Europe.
A big thanks to Benjamin Tenius and his team at the Clayton Hotel Düsseldorf for their wonderful hospitality during our visit.
