Journey to the Edge of the World: An Arctic Expedition
The Sunday Show
Sunday, 22 February 2026 - 45 minutes
This evening on the programme we journey north to the edge of the world as award-winning journalist and author Conor Power joins me to share the story of an extraordinary Arctic expedition. Sailing along the dramatic coast of Norway and far beyond the Arctic Circle towards the North Pole, Conor describes the breathtaking landscapes of the far north — from the towering peaks of the Lofoten Islands to icy wilderness where polar bears roam. Along the way there are some wonderfully unexpected moments too, including the unlikely encounter with a fellow Irish traveller from West Cork in one of the most remote corners of the planet. It’s a fascinating conversation about adventure, exploration and the magic of travelling to the very top of the world.
Hurtigruten, the spirit of Norway since 1893
Hurtigruten is a household name in Norway, loved by locals for generations. The claim that the route they founded binds the country together, connecting people and sustaining communities. This is a journey through 130 years of Hurtigruten's rich history.
The Story of Havila
Havila’s story began with the vision of its founder, Per Sævik, who has long believed that the spectacular coastline of Norway should be protected and enjoyed by generations to come. The journey started in 1957, when Sævik bought his first fishing boat at just 16 years of age. He paid for it with money he had earned working on another fishing boat every second day since he was 12 years old.
