The Sunday Show – Oscars Special

This evening we’re rolling out the red carpet for a very special Oscars edition of The Sunday Show.  I’ll be joined by film lovers Anthony Remedy and Emer Roche as we take a look at the films nominated this year, the performances everyone is talking about, and the big moments that made previous Academy Awards ceremonies so memorable.  We’ll chat about the remarkable comeback of horror at the Oscars, with films like Weapons and Sinners showing that the genre is once again being taken seriously by the Academy.  Our predictions for the this year were spot on!

Ireland wins two Oscars

It’s also been a fantastic year for Irish talent, with Jesse Buckley celebrating a major Oscar win, and another Irish winner Richard Baneham winning an Oscar for Best Visual Effects (Avatar: Fire and Ash) adding to the country’s incredible success story on Hollywood’s biggest night.

  • Jessie Buckley – Best Actress (Hamnet)

  • Richard Baneham – Best Visual Effects (Avatar: Fire and Ash)

Sinners’ Autumn Durald Arkapaw becomes first woman – and first black person – to win best cinematography Oscar and Jesse Buckly was the first Irish woman to win an Oscar for Best Actress with Amy Madigan winning best actress in a supporting role for Weapons.  This year's 98th Oscars were also hosted by irishman Conan O' Brien.
