Travel Talk headed to Derry this weekend and met up with Ciaran O' Neill the MD of the Bishop's Gate Hotel - Ciaran took up the opportunity in 2015 to open a new 32 bedroom Boutique Hotel inside the Historic Derry walls as part of a regeneration project and it successfully opened on the 4th March of 2016.  It recently added 10 luxury apartments to the portfolio.  This stylish Edwardian Hotel has won numerous accolades starting with Hideaway Hotel of the year with Georgina Campbell and it has since become an important part of life in Derry -  the hotel joined the Blue Book in 2017 - wwwirelandsbluebook.com  -  We loved the central location of the hotel which is right beside the medieval walls.

Ed is a big fan of Derry which today is a fantastic city to visit, offering incredible value for money.   Ed stayed at one of the new apartments which are owned and managed by Bishops Gate Hotel in Derry and the hotel was doing a special offer of Dinner, bed and breakfast for 2 people sharing for just £175 - Overnight Stay in a Deluxe Room, Cooked to order Irish Breakfast and a 3 Course Dinner in The Wig and Gown Restaurant.  The apartments were fitted with all self catering facilities and super fast WiFi.

A key component in the award win was Visit Derry’s new state-of-the-art visitor information centre which opened in 2020. Located beside the iconic city walls at Waterloo Place, the Visit Derry Visitor Information Centre is a vital information hub for visitors to the Walled City and North West region. The centre offers a full range of visitor services including expert advice, digital information kiosks, interactive maps and videos, tourism literature, tickets, and gift shop. Visit Derry also recently launched the Visit Derry Pass, an innovative integrated digital ticket. As the first-of-its-kind digital pass to be launched in Northern Ireland, the Visit Derry Pass provides visitors with access to 10 attractions and activities, making it even easier for visitors to plan a trip to the Walled City.

If you liked Derry Girls there is a new Derry Girls Experience opening in Derry this July.  The exhibition will create an immersive visitor experience completely unique to Derry that will showcase both our history and the cultural scene at that time, as captured so vividly in the show, and generate greater interest in the DCSDC area as a major visitor destination.
